Private gas stations purchase petroleum products at a faily high price,
which prevents them from achieving profitability and setting competitive prices
with oil stations

Of the 27,700 gas stations in Russia

19,000 are privately owned
These operators do not have their own refining facilities,
so they purchase fuel on the exchange or directly from refineries

Major oil companies supply their own stations first,
and then large and small regional chains

Also up for sale facilities of major oil companies - Lukoil and Gazprom

Donetsk . [ Russia occupied Ukraine ]

in every Donetsk apartment,
the bathroom resembles a storage room for water bottles

Whenever possible, people fill them up
to wash dishes and floors or even to shower

Even if the water leaving the filtration is clean
(that's what officials claim)

By the time water reaches apartments through old pipelines,
the tap water can be unhealthy with a host of harmful contaminants

Water is supplied to apartments once every three days,
but the pressure doesn't reach all floors

Those who don't have enough tap water use stationary water tanks
found in every block and are regularly filled from orange trucks
from the local water utility

- Lenin Square -

Martial law is signaled by mobile groups in pickup trucks
with machine guns mounted on the back.
You can stumble upon them unexpectedly;
they often hide under low-growing trees.

One such crew is on duty on Artema Street,
one of the city's longest and widest thoroughfares.
It's lined with dozens of cafes, tobacconists, grocery stores,
pharmacies, and mobile phone stores.

However, not a single brand familiar to Russians can be found here.
Mobile operators include Phoenix and Miranda.

Major grocery chains include Moloko and Paket.
Even Vkusno i Tochki (Tasty and Tochki) is missing
- the McDonald's equivalent is called DonMak

This establishment, which always has lines at the checkout
located on the city's main square, Lenin Square.
The square is almost entirely deserted,
but it often hosts public events,
such as City Day and Russia Day.
The dominant feature of this space is the former building of
the Ministry of Industry of the Ukrainian SSR.
Now, the multicolored letters "DPR"
adorn the majestic, columned palace,
immediately striking amid the monochromatic Soviet buildings.

Tall, fit men stroll nearby,
apparently instructed to dress in civilian clothes
and avoid attracting attention:
jeans, discreet T-shirts, boots and caps.

However, almost all of them carry distinctive handbags that can fit a pistol.

- Dennis Pushilin -

current head of the Donetsk People's Republic
is viewed with skepticism

Locals call him "Chepushilin" and spread all sorts of rumors about him:

for example:

. . . "afraid to appear in Donetsk" and lives near Mariupol

. . . doesn't defend Donetsk People's Republic [ DPR ] interests before the federal government

. . . in 2016-2017
had something to do with the death of
iconic field commanders killed in the region

- Arsen Pavlov

- ( Question )

While serving in the army and the FSB,
what kind of bosses did you encounter more often?

Sincere champions of the Fatherland and talented leaders
who inspire by their example, or heartless careerists and schemers?

- ( Igor Strelkov )

I've encountered all kinds of bosses, both.
I've encountered schemers, careerists, outright blockheads,
sycophants who've seized power, and boors.
I've encountered everyone.

There have been talented leaders and intelligent people.
Unfortunately, the longer I served, the fewer of them I encountered.

Unfortunately, the turning point occurred in the 2000s,
when the Federal Security Service, [ FSB ]
flush with money and power,
suddenly began to rapidly expel from its ranks
people who truly served the Motherland,
or at least thought about the services's interests and lived for them.

Such people became fewer and fewer with each passing year.
And in their place, either dumb idiots climbed in,
ready to serve their superiors at any cost,
including outright lies and a complete distortion of reality,
or outright careerists and scoundrels who profited from their service.
And, unfortunately, as far as I understand, these people now
constitute at least the majority at the top of our service.
At least, I emphasize.
If not the absolute majority - idiots, scoundrels, and careerists.

Unfortunately, they have not been punished for all their failures,
and no one intends to be.

I won't delve further into this topic,
but I want to say that,
over the years of the war,
from '14 to '22, [ 2014 - 2022 ]
to put it mildly,
our service demonstrated astonishing,
appalling incompetence
and an inability to manage events,
rather drag along in a convoy
in a cloud of dust and dirt. Period.

. July 5, 2026
. letter to Getmanov's comrade Alexander

Igor Strelkov: almost no one believes the official television reports

. . .

Dear Alexander Nikolaevich!

The prison colony is home to quite a few "convicted deserters" (Article 337, "SOCH"),
who sport crippled arms and stiff knees from severe wounds.
Any objective military medical commission would, with 100% certainly,
declare these cripples unfit even for non-combatant service.
But they are, nonetheless, sentenced as "deserters"

"And after this, do they even hope to lure anyone into the army,
given such a swinish, disregard for their own wounded soldiers?"

"I know that among our 'Sochi men' there are many genuine 'draft dodgers and deserters'
They may even be the majority, but I can't bring myself to condemn them - given what's happening."

"Especially considering the seething crowds of 'metropolitan scum'
at various celebrations and festivals, sports events, and other things 'showed' on TV ..."

By the way - I don't remember if I wrote about this:
for over six months now,
we haven't seen any 'recruiters' for the 'stormtroopers'
- apparently because the few willing are 'caught' while still in pretrial detention
or immediately upon arrival at the penal colony - under quarantine.
Joining the army from the ranks has become such a rarity
that it's now being 'judged and judged' on a case-by-case basis.

"But in the summer and fall of 2024,
when I first arrived at the colony,
people were actually leaving for war in droves,
even waiting for three or four months to be drafted...
What am I getting at?"

"The prospects for a successful mobilization,"
if/when it's announced
